Summary
The study of the Rhône before, during and after the drainage of the Verbois reservoir shows us that the mud accumulated before the dam during 2 or 3 years and then discharged causes great damage to the fishes and the river.
This mud contains mountain sediments from Mont Blanc, and organic matter from the sewage of Geneva. So it causes two sorts of pollution: one mechanical by deposits of mud on the bed of the river over 20 Km, another by absorption of dissolved oxygen during 24 hours.
