Summary
The population dynamics of the zooplankton species of Plußsee (13 ha, 28 m deep) near Plön were studied. The populations of the Rotifers and Cladocera showed successions of latent, gradation, balanced, and oscillation phases. After breaking up of the ice cover most of the rotifers and Bosmina longirostris had a gradation period, and during the logarithmic phase the range of the instantaneous coefficient of population increase (r’) was 0.07 (Bosmina longirostris) to 0.3 (Chydorus sphaericus). Most of the Cladocera populations (Daphnia cuculiata, Ceriodaphnia quadrangula, Bosmina coregoni, Chydorus sphaericus) passed a phase of gradation in summer.
Filinia longiseta had a gradation phase when its population was in a water layer with both low temperature and high oxygen concentration.
