Summary
A study on the chironomids of Linding Å showed that 67 species were represented. 12% of the species belong to the subfamily Tanypodinae, 63% to the Orthocladiinae and 25% to the Chironominae. On the basis of the per cent composition of the subfamilies, Linding Å resembles a lower mountain brook rather than a lowland river. The summer temperatures in Linding Å are low and thus the Orthocladiinae can dominate the stream, as the species of this subfamily are considered to be more cold stenothermous than the species of the Chironominae.
