Summary
The contribution deals with the problems which arise from uncontrolled introduction of fish-species in old lakes with a well-balanced endemic fauna. The negative consequences are shown in discussing the ichthyological situation of Lake Titicaca/Peru, Bolivia and Lake Lanao/Mindanao (Philippines). Therefore the author puts forward two postulations in order to avoid the extinction of endemic species:
1. | autecological studies of the native fauna for finding out the best fitting species that should be introduced and | ||||
2. | use of cultured strains only in avoidance of introduction of parasites. |
