Summary
We have tried to apply to phytoplanctonic populations of an oligotrophic lake of Auvergne (France) the ecological succession theory.
The reality of this succession is shown as well as a relative correlation with the values of diversity indexes derived from information theory.
The correlation between specific diversity and production by photosynthesis shows that activity coefficients are high for the more diversified populations as well as for the stages of dominance of one species. Between these two situations, an intermediary state seems to be characterized by a very low production biomass ratio.
