Interactions between population density and water quality parameters during a dinoflagellate bloom

With 6 figures and 2 tables in the text

Pages 1820-1828 | Published online: 01 Dec 2017

Summary

Blooms of the dinoflagellate, Peridinium penardii (Lemm.) Lemm. fo. californicum Javorn., are shown to have a significant effect on some water quality parameters in a California reservoir. Temperature, dissolved oxygen, and pH are positively correlated with population density while conductivity, nitrates and inorganic carbon are negatively correlated. Possible interactions with other freshwater biota are discussed.
