Distribution pattern of uptake kinetic responses in a stratified eutrophic lake (Plußsee ecosystem study IV)

Summary

The kinetic data reveal that the lake ecosystem is subdivided in “biochemical compartments” marked by different glucose uptake type responses of the bacterial microflora (saturation type response and sigmoid type response). The metabolic types are strongly influenced by the physiological state of the bacteria. The offer of the substrate seems to regulate the kinetic parameters.
