Experimental lake fertilization in the Kuokkel area, northern Sweden: Budget calculations and the fate of nutrients

Summary

Two lakes in the Kuokkel area in northern Sweden were fertilized with N and P as single nutrients or in combination. P was quickly and permanently incorporated in lake sediments. P fertilization caused increased N loading due to N fixation. Excess N was accumulated as inorganic N in lake water and denitrified.
