Summary
A theoretical approach to measuring resuspension activities in lakes has been presented using an extinction model as a means for quantifying either the forces of res- pension or the amounts of material resuspended. A sediment trap is also suggested that would facilitate the determination of a resuspension coefficient (kr). Further development of this idea may necessitate a modification of the equation for kr to account for differences in particle characteristics or the physical factors of the lake in which this approach is used. Without further investigation, this approach will not be useful in lotic systems because the kr may not be measurable in flowing waters.
