Summary
The purpose of this paper is to give a general overview of the mercury (Hg) present knowledge in the aquatic ecosystems of Quebec. Most of the available data are thus synthesized on 10 maps and briefly discussed. All the maps are included in the report by DELISLE [1] published by Environment Canada.
Among the 303 drainage bassins in Quebec, 81 have a surface greater than 1,000 m2 (2,589 km2). Out of these, 44 outfall into the St. Lawrence River and Gulf, 25 into James Bay and Hudson Bay and 12 into Ungava Bay. Within these drainage bassins, different investigators have collected the following biological and physical materials for Hg analysis. Their results can be summarized as follows:
