Summary
Density, biomass and production of the population of cyclopoid Acanthocyclops rohustus have been studied in the ricefields of the Camargue. Samples were taken twice a week. Five cohorts can be distinguished in 4 months. The effect of temperature on development of eggs, nauplii and cope- podites has been investigated. High temperature retarded development especially for copepodites. Maximum biomass reached 4.9 mg PS · dm−2 and production 1.2 mg PS · dm−2 · day−1. From May to August, total production was 3 g PS · dm−2. Ricefields appear to be very productive ecosystems.
