Water quantity management in Dutch polders, adversely affecting the recruitment of northern pike (Esox lucius L.)

Summary

In 6 drainable 0.1 ha ponds the effects of water quantity management in Dutch clay-and sand polders were investigated. The natural recruitment of northern pike appeared highly negatively influenced by the maintenance of low winter levels.

Remedial effects of raising water levels earlier in the spring have been demonstrated.
