Preliminary estimate of the organic substances of lake waters and bottom sediments

Summary

The application of Tiurin method determining organic total C and organic matter compound as well as Griffith-Schnitzer method determining organic matter compound in water environment we regarded as successful. Certain dependences between soils of catchment area, underground waters and littoral waters of the lake have been observed, thought for one lake only and in the samples which were collected only once. But logical thinking and selective information from other authors should make us believe that such dependences are more general.

1.

The abundance of organic C in underground waters and their organic matter compound were dependent of the character of the soils from which the samples were collected. Nevertheless, organic matter compound of underground waters was not strictly a reflection of organic matter compound present in soils.

2.

The amount of organic C in waters of littoral zone of a lake was dependent on total C content in soils near the lake and in underground waters. We have observed, however, that organic matter compound was largely modified.
