Summary
Between 1989 and 1991 samples from 9 different lacustrine basins, 4,900-5,500 meters high, in the Himalayan Region, at the bottom of the South face of Mount Everest (Khumbu Valley, Nepal) were taken. Analytical results show an ion content similar to the one of Alpine lakes, strictly connected to the geolithology of the region. Sediment analysis show high concentrations in phosphorus and metals. A preliminary cadastere of the Himalayan lakes, located between 4,000 and 5,600 m a.s.l., was also compilated.
