Calcium carbonate saturation in Spanish coastal lagoons

Summary

The saturation index for calcium carbonate in water bodies located on the Spanish Mediterranean coastline has been calculated. Waters were supersaturated with respect to calcium carbonate, the saturation index being strongly correlated with pH and ionic strength and weakly correlated with the number of phytoplanktonic cells. Multiple regression analysis shows that the logarithm of saturation index can be expressed as a function of pH and ionic strength.
