XIV. Ecology of Aquatic Organisms. 2. Algae and Macrophyta

Studies on germination and growth of a river macrophyte (Potamogeton nodosus Poir.) in relation to substrate type and water quality

Pages 2247-2250 | Published online: 01 Dec 2017

Summary

Germination, seedling growth, and adult growth of Potamogeton nodosus in relation to substrate types (sand, clay, and organic soils) and water quality (tap water vs. Rhine water) were investigated in a series of experiments. Germination was dependent on underwater light conditions. Seedling and adult biomass production was favoured by clay and organic substrates. The results are discussed in relation to river habitat management.
