Summary
Food concentration is correlated with reproduction in Daphnia obtusa in the investigated mountain pond. A decrease in algal biomass can induce amphigonic reproduction, whereas an increasing algal biomass results in an increase in clutch size.
In shallow water of mountain regions natural UV-B radiation can cause damages to Daphnia. Juveniles are more susceptible to irradiation damage than adults. The degree of damage is dependent on the age of Daphnia, the available food concentration and the water depth.
