Firing Behaviour of Enamels

Pages 22-30 | Published online: 26 Aug 2014

Abstract

The firing behaviour of enamels was observed under a microscope. Enamelling iron gives out much more gas than titanium steel, stainless steel or copper. The bubbles retained in the enamel in enamelling iron at the end of the firing are fewer. Enamelling iron gives out gases hours after the introduction of the plate in the furnace. Enamelling iron tends to copperhead, while the other metals investigated show a. smooth surface after firing. The size of the bubbles increases and the number decreases as the firing proceeds.
