Abstract
Mineralogy and general properties of an altered sillimanite rock occuring in Rewa, M.P. have been summarised on the basis of petrography, DTA, X-ray, chemical analyses and other tests. The altered rock was identified as clay of kaolinitic composition. Impurities in the sample amount to about 4 per cent. The probable mode of origin of the sample has been shown to be due to combined effect of weathering and hydrothermal mineralization with boric acid vapour influencing the reactions. Geological support was drawn from Dunn's field investigation.
