Abstract
The sillimanite deposit in Rewa, M.P., is extensively kaolinised at places and this clay is found to be suitable for refractory and pottery industries. Bricks conforming to the Indian Standard Specification for high heat duty refractories (IS 8) could be made from this clay by firing at 1350° or 1400°C. The required properties could be satisfactorily developed by employing different forming processes.
The clay is also suitable for use in potteries and it is amenable to both jiggerjolleying and slip casting. Crazing resistant wares could be prepared from the unwashed clay and the colour of semi-vitrified wares improved by using washed clay.
