Investigation on Suitability of Indigenous Asbestos for the Manufacture of Asbestos Cement Products

Abstract

With a view to investigate the possibility of industrial utilisation of indigenous asbestos, mostly of amphibole variety, ten samples were procured through the Geological Survey of India and Indian Bureau of Mines from different parts of the country. Chemical and physical tests as well as trials for making specimens of pipes, flats, corrugation, etc. on a laboratory settle showed that these indigenous asbestos, could be utilised for cement-asbestos products, though they may not be as good as the imported chrysotile variety.
