Abstract

Silica nanoparticles in the form of colloidal silica was incorporated in a standard porcelain body and influence of its addition on the dry as well as thermo-mechanical properties, vitrification behaviour and microstructure have been investigated. The incorporation of 5 wt% of nano silica particles in the form of colloidal silica resulted in 97.2% increase in dry flexural strength. Fired properties showed that 2 wt% addition was found to be better due to higher flexural strength, bulk density and lower porosity compared to the standard.
