Bankhead Moss, Fife: The survival of a raised bog flora in the midst of intensive agriculture

Pages 191-199 | Received 28 Mar 1974, Published online: 13 Oct 2010

Summary

Bankhead Moss, a small raised bog in east Fife, was studied with special emphasis being put on vegetation, water content of the peat, pH and nutrient status; contrasts with the adjacent willow carr are brought out. Despite its small size the bog supports a typical raised bog flora; this is illustrated by a comparison with the type described by Ratcliffe (1964).
