Summary
The distribution of five species of the genus Desmidium (Desmidiaceae) in the lochs of Sutherland and the island of Skye is reported from observations carried out during the past 16 years. Prior to this investigation, four of the species were not known from the British mainland, though they had been reported from Harris and Lewis.
