ELAPSOIDEA CHELAZZII, A NEW ELAPID SNAKE FROM SOMALIA

SUMMARY

Description of a new Somali (Afgoi: 02°06'N-45°11'E) Elapsoidea with small (in adult) and strongly depressed head, obtusely pointed snout, grey chin region, vertical diameter of the eye greater than its distance from the upper lip, juvenile with white head and without transverse bands: Elapsoidea chelazzii n. sp. (Serpentes Elapidae).

The genus is new to Somalia.

RIASSUNTO

Descrizione di una nuova Elapsoidea della Somalia (Afgoi: 02°06'N- 45°11'E) caratterizzata dalla testa piccola (nell'adulto) e fortemente de pressa, il muso ottusamente appuntito, la regione mentoniera di color grigio, il diametro verticale dell'occhio maggiore della distanza di quest'ultimo dall'orlo del labbro superiore, il giovane con testa bianca e corpo privo di bande: Elapsoidea chelazzii n. sp. (Serpentes Elapidae).

Il genere è nuovo per la Somalia.
