Some reflections on a conference: Commitment and theory

During the recently held International Conference on Population Development in Southern Africa, delegates seemed to be reluctant to face post‐modernisation theories on development. The cultural concept was also used in a static way. Delegates seemed to be afraid to ‘politicise’ issues. This is a pity, because ultimately good practice is informed by good theory.
