An Experimental Investigation of the Change in Radiation Patterns in the Fresnel's Region of Sectoral Electromagnetic Horn Antennas Due to Shorting Grills

Abstract

The radiated electromagnetic field of a sectoral horn antenna may be varied to any convenient form by placing small shorting grills or strips, at the appropriate positions. The axial intensity increases to three or four times, and a narrow, focussed beam can be obtained even from locally made horns. The irregularities of the power patterns due to the end-effect, defects in making, etc., can thus be eliminated by a very simple and easy method.
