Abstract
The paper traces the growth of modern high speed computer circuits using vacuum tubes and semiconductor devices and discusses the inherent speed limitations of the devices and the systems utilizing these devices. Methods are discussed to improve the switching performances of the transistors and analysis of the results obtained and the limitations introduced by various transistor parameters are discussed. Design criteria and experimental results are also given for the current switching circuits. In the end, comparison is made of this system with other existing types of circuits.
