Pages 369-374 | Published online: 21 Aug 2015

ABSTRACT

The characteristics of a diode whose cathode is in the form of a closed box with a hole in its wall and whose inner surface is lined with conventional cathode material are presented after a brief summary of earlier work in the subject. Experimental results obtained on a cathode whose hole size is large in relation to the linear dimensions of the box are discussed in the light of previous work, including retarding potential characteristics.
