ABSTRACT

In this article a review of our present state of knowledge of whistlers is given. After briefly summarizing the earlier work prior to 1951, the investigations of the three main groups of workers headed by Storey, Helliwell and Morgan are considered in some detail. The theory of whistler propagation in the atmosphere is then developed. Results of very recent observations and a few unsolved problems are given at the end.
