Design Considerations in Beam-Plasma Amplifiers and Oscillators

SUMMARY

Electron beam-plasma interactions offer many attractive features for providing amplification of microwaves and ultramicrowaves. These have been discussed along with some of the problems associated with this method. Approaches to the achievement of high plasma density and of coupling without the use of periodic structures have been described. The latter problem in particular needs to be pursued further in order to make full use of the potentialities of the method.
