ABSTRACT

A simple and accurate method for the analysis of planar array type slow wave structures with parallel conductors, transverse to the direction of electromagnetic wave propagation is presented. Capacitance associated with a conductor is used as the basis of analysis. It is possible to use this technique for analysing structures with conductor cross-sections other than either rectangular or circular which is otherwise difficult. This is supported by comparing the results predicted by this method with those observed experimentally. Effect of discontinuity in the transverse direction in a ladder line has been discussed. Use of effective conductor length as modified by end capacitance is suggested for improved theoretical results.
