Amplitude Probability Distribution of Atmospheric Radio Noise Recorded at Delhi (28° 35'N, 77°05'E)

Pages 466-477 | Received 01 Oct 1964, Published online: 21 Aug 2015

ABSTRACT

Results of analysis of the Amplitude Probability Distribution (APD) of atmospheric radio noise recorded by an objective method at Delhi are reported in this paper. It is observed that the general noise is statistically stationary over a long period following Rayleigh distribution Law, particularly when the frequency is comparatively high. In some cases, however, there are deviations at the high intensity, low probability end of the curve, indicating combination of Log-normal and Rayleigh distributions. These are generally observed when the nature of the noise is impulsive as in the low frequency bands or in Summer seasons. In a large number of cases there are deviations at the low intensity, high probability portions of the APD curves indicating some sort of combination between Gaussian and Rayleigh distributions.
