Precise Temperature Controller for a Three-zone Diffusion Furnace

ABSTRACT

The paper deals with the design and construction of a precision temperature controller for use with a three-zone silicon diffusion furnace, to operate in the range 900–1400°C. Thermocouples are used as sensing elements. The controller utilizes adjustments of proportion bandwidth, rate action and reset action for precise control of the temperature. The power is controlled through silicon controlled rectifiers, phase controlled by the unijunction transistor oscillators.
