ABSTRACT

The present paper gives design details and experimental results obtained on a four-turn cavity backed S-band helical antenna. The antenna was designed for operation in the frequency region 2·2–3·8 Gc/s. The observed radiation pattern was found to be circularly polarized and consisted of a main lobe with its major axis in the axial direction. The half power beamwidth in the 2·4–3·0 Gc/s. was found to be 53°. The gain of the antenna in the frequency range of operation was varying between 7 and 9·5 db. while the maximum input VSWR was within 2·2.
