ABSTRACT
The probability distribution of time shifts involved in the measurements of ionospheric movements by Mitra's three spaced receiver technique has been studied. It is pointed out that the probability distribution along the NS direction is systematically narrower than that along the EW direction. An example of very narrow probability distribution in NS direction is also given. The conclusion reached is that there seems to be a preferred orientation in NS direction of the lines of maxima in diffraction pattern obtained on 2·6 Mc/s. at Ahmedabad.
