ABSTRACT
The paper deals with the determination of the form of an acoustic pulse which has been backscattered from an ellipsoid or a cylinder. Using Freed-man's approach, it has been shown that the form of the echo from an ellipsoid is more or less the same as that of the incident pulse except for a change in amplitude. Variation of the echo level from an ellipsoid due to variations in the aspect angle has been worked out. The echo structure, expected from a cylinder, for oblique incidence and small pulse lengths, has also been worked out.
