ABSTRACT
This paper describes the design and development of a low noise front end wideband amplifier for a broadband receiver in the frequency range of 100–150 Mc/s. By incorporating the concepts of distributed amplifier techniques, sufficient gain over the required band is achieved and by the use of low noise VHF ceramic triode (Nuvistor) tube, RCA Type 6CW4, noise performance is materially improved. Qualitative evaluation of this amplifier was done by using it as the front end of a commercial VHF receiver and, as expected, the sensitivity and noise performance of the commercial receiver was found to be improved.
