Multimode Degeneracy in a Cavity Resonator

Abstract

The problem of a resonator having a number of resonant modes at the same frequency is investigated. For this purpose a circular cylindrical cavity with conducting posts symmetrically arranged along a circle and joining the opposite lids of the cylinder is considered. The dependence of the resonant frequencies of the TM modes on the diameter and relative spacings of the conducting posts are studied and conditions are derived for obtaining multimode degeneracy.
