Abstract

Transmissometers are instruments used at airports to measure runway visibility. To eliminate the use of long lengths of underground signal cables which are both expensive and difficult to obtain and install, a UHF radio link has been developed, which will transmit over radio the visibility information from near the runway to the control tower, where it will be received and recorded on a strip chart recorder.
