Wave Generation and Shaping Through Transistor Constant Current Characteristics

Pages 831-842 | Received 12 Dec 1969, Published online: 21 Aug 2015

Abstract

A transistor biased to operate in the active region can be considered as a constant current source, or a constant current drain. The paper describes simple techniques of generating triangular, trapezoidal, staircase, etc., waveforms making use of this property of the transistor. The circuit developed uses a pair of PNP and NPN transistors in the constant current mode. Depending on the type of input gating waveforms used, a variety of waveforms can be generated.
