Abstract

Effective resistance caused by skin effect and non-uniform current density on the conductors has been calculated for a slab line. A general formula for the RF resistance and the attenuation constant has been obtained. The variation of attenuation constant with change in the value of the radius of the central cylindrical conductor has been plotted. The minimum attenuation value has been found from the plot to correspond to a line of nearly 82 ohms. For 50-ohm line, the attenuation constant is nearly 20 per cent higher than that of the 82-ohm line.
