Abstract
In telemetering data, viz. strain, load, temperature, etc., by the normal analogue data transmission, that employ current or voltage proportional techniques, any change in the characteristics of the transmission path introduce errors. In the method that has been described here, the data are put on the line in digital form. This paper gives the design details of a simple digital data transmitter that has been developed for line telemetry. The transmitter essentially comprises of two triangular wave generators and a mixer. One triangular wave generator acts as a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and the other as a local oscillator. The transducer output constitutes the input control to the VCO. The difference frequency signal coming out of the mixer circuit is in a binary form and is proportional to the transducer output. This signal can either be transmitted direct or in a coded form through the line to the distant receiving station, where it can be regenerated and read in a counter. Performance details are also given in this paper.
