Abstract

The paper describes a subsystem, developed to record sectorwise frequency distribution of wind direction. Initially, brief description of the main Automatic Data Logging System for the study of meteorological parameters at Tarapur Atomic Power Station, Tarapur, is presented. The ADL system, a wired programme digital computer, records 8 min. averages of temperature, wind speed, wind direction, solar radiation, etc., from sensors located at a number of points on a 120-metre high tower. The wind direction sensor (wind-vane) is a continuous 356° potentiometer across which a fixed voltage is applied. The output from the wiper gives analogue of wind direction. The average wind direction as computed by the wired programme would yield wrong results, especially when wind direction crosses the dead zone of the sensor. This problem is overcome by adding this subsystem which gives sectorwise frequency distribution of wind direction from which wind direction averages are computed.
