Abstract
This review paper deals with the evolution of TV tuners from its inception (in the post-War commercial development of TV receivers) to date. The different types of tuners have been described at length with special emphasis on the electronic type of tuner which is going to be the main contender in the next generation of tuners. Finally, the future trends likely to affect the overall appearance and performance of the TV tuners have been enumerated so as to emphasize that the end has not yet been achieved in the design and development of TV tuners. The work carried out at CEERI in the development of Electronic tuner is also described with some of the results obtained.
