The Effects of Ions on vlf and elf Propagation in an Abnormally Ionized Atmosphere

Abstract

The paper deals with the propagation of elf and vlf waves in abnormally ionized lower atmosphere. The absorption of these waves in whistler mode propagation has been calculated for three disturbed conditions (PCA event, solar flares and nuclear explosion) and ambient condition of the lower ionosphere. It is found that due to enhanced ion density, elf waves suffer more absorption than that suffered by vlf waves.
