Abstract

A generalized analysis of the log-periodic dipole antenna (LPDA) having travelling wave type current distribution in its constituent dipoles is presented. Mathematical expressions for the far-zone radiation fields, gain and aperture are derived. Results obtained from these expressions for the travelling wave LPDA are compared with the LPDA having sinusoidal current distribution. It is found that the LPDA with travelling wave type of current distribution gives narrower E-plane beam and better gain as compared to the LPDA with sinusoidal current distribution.
