Abstract

The trans-receiver type of pacemaker is discussed here. Transmitter side consists of a stable multivibrator, having pulse repetition rate varying from 30 to 120 ppm, and oscillator, having carrier frequency 700 kc. The transmitting antenna used in this is the coil of tank circuit, which also resonant at 700 kc, is enclosed in polythylene jacket. To rectify the high frequency wave train to a unidirectional pulse of current, the resonant circuit is connected to an electrode pair by insertion of a diode rectifier in series. The resonant circuit is excited by an antenna placed in closed proximity to the buried receiver circuit and the stimula through the electrode is fed to the heart. An improved version of cardiac pacemaker is also described.
