On Equivalent Representation of Lossy Transmission Lines

Abstract

For short duration surges, it has recently been demonstrated that a short-circuited lossy transmission line is approximately equivalent to a lossless line terminated in a resistance, in so far as the output current is concerned. The same result is derived here in an alternative manner, which is believed to be simpler and more revealing. Further, the equivalence is also shown to hold in the two-port sense.
