Abstract
This paper describes a tunnel diode amplifier which has been developed at the Himalayan Radio Propagation Unit, Dehradun. The tunnel diode amplifier consists of an amplifier module mounted on a four-port circulator. The amplifier module contains a tunnel diode, microwave matching network and a d.c. bias circuit. A few modules have been developed using germanium diodes and gallium-antimonide diodes along with constant temperature ovens. The amplifier performance characteristics such as gain, bandwidth and noise figure have met the required specification of the communication system under development.
